BREAKFAST WEBINAR – THE LONDON ECONOMY – An Update

A presentation by the Bank of England

An Update About this Event

This was a joint online event for London Southside Chamber of Commerce and Southwark Chamber of Commerce. It provided an opportunity to learn from our most important independent financial institution about what is really going on in the London economy and the benefits to our members’ businesses.

Rob Elder, the Bank of England Agent for Greater London, set out the existing position as he sees it.  See Rob’s details HERE.

Prior to COVID-19 restrictions only those who could get an invitation to lunch at the Bank had access to this kind of insight but now with the magic of video conferencing they were able to have a virtual breakfast briefing at the Bank.

In the course of a truly fascinating talk, Rob covered the effects to date and the possible future impact on London’s economy of the Pandemic and of Brexit. The event was well attended by members of LSCC and of Southwark Chamber.

OPEN SOURCE DUE DILIGENCE – BUSINESS WEBINAR

So, what has open source research ever done for us?

Thursday 29th April 2021, 4.00pm to 5.00pm

LSCC Virtual Meeting Powered by Zoom

Using Open Source research for Due Diligence

If you employ someone in a role that involves commercial confidentiality, or there is some sensitivity around it, or if you are looking to sign a contract with a new company, you will know about conducting “due diligence” enquiries and, at some stage, you will be doing “open source research” but what exactly is that? This webinar will explore how effective it can be.

Many people and businesses think that “open source research” involves nothing more than a Google search, and are content to rely on that as the extent of their due diligence enquiries. If you get it wrong there is the risk of employing someone who is not who they appear to be – which can have a significant impact on your business. Furthermore, recent legislation and court cases have due made plain that regulatory authorities are focusing much more on what steps businesses have taken to ensure that the companies and businesses they deal with are legitimate. Failure to do so can result in both financial penalties and reputational damage.

Ventham Consulting specialises in open source research, using techniques and skills based on those learned in specialist operations of policing and intelligence, and adapted to the wider business and civil world. We recently submitted evidence about the value of this form of investigation to the House of Commons’ Treasury Select Committee inquiry into economic crime. This webinar is designed to give a background to the sort of problems encountered, the opportunities offered by online research, and how it can assist your business.

You are invited to join the meeting via Zoom.

When: 29th April at 4:00pm UK time.
