SUMMARY:Managing Stress and Anxiety
DESCRIPTION:BUSINESS CLUB MEETING \nIntroduction \nResearch on creativity\, productivity\, and the psychology of daily working life has revealed people are more productive\, creative and loyal when they are happy. Happy people also provide much better client satisfaction than those with poor wellbeing at work. \nHowever\, right now\, in these socio/economically challenging times\, many people are experiencing depression\, anxiety and stress. In fact\, poor mental health is now one of the major reasons for sickness absence. \nThe CBI says: \n\nAbsence due to sickness can cost at the very least £495 per employee per year – a high cost for SMEs;\n63% of employees believe that corporate wellbeing provision enhances staff loyalty;\nOn average\, each person off with stress and anxiety took around 16.5 days off work;\nEmployees suffering from stress are more likely to report depression and other psychosomatic complaints. They take much longer to recover from illness than do workers without high levels of work-related stress;\n\nWith this in mind\, whether you are an employer or employee\, you will appreciate the importance of self-care in managing stress and anxiety. It will help to strengthen the personal resilience needed to cope with work and life. \nThe Workshop Content \nThis is a highly interactive\, fact filled\, practical workshop and it will be delivered in an informal\, entertaining manner and will help to manage stress and anxiety by: \n\nExplaining what stress and anxiety is;\nTeaching you simple meditation techniques that do not take years to perfect – this includes meditation with the help of wine and chocolate\nIntroducing and demonstrating other techniques to use in your stress busting toolkit;\nAllowing you actually to experience the benefits each technique offers.\n\nAfter the workshop\, you can network with other members over refreshments and ask Alison any further questions. What’s more\, each participant will take home a FREE personal inhaler filled with therapeutic\, relaxing aromatic essential oils. \nAlison Mo is a registered IFA Level 4 Clinical Aromatherapist specialising in conditions such as stress\, anxiety. Her treatments support and work in conjunction with conventional medicine and her symptom management knowledge addresses acute\, chronic and terminal conditions and palliative care. \nIn addition\, she also uses simple but highly effective meditation techniques to help calm and soothe the mind which can be fitted into any person’s daily routine. \nShe works at Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice as an Allied Health Professional and runs corporate health and well-being courses. She also advises on formulations for bespoke spa products. \nBOOK NOW.\nEmail: gerry@londonscc.co.uk \nPhone: 07958 584479 \n A £20 CHARGE IS MADE TO HELP COVER COST OF MATERIALS\, AND THERE WILL BE COMPLIMENTARY SNACKS\, WINE AND SOFT DRINKS.   \nWe are pleased to thank Staybridge Suites for hosting this event

Members like to get together\, swap ideas and develop business contacts. \nAs society slowly starts to open up and it becomes possible to meet in larger groups again\, we plan to celebrate this liberation with an evening get-together at an hotel run by Radiana Vlahova\, one of our members. \nDuring the pandemic\, everyone has become only too painfully aware of how important direct contact with other people is for our happiness and wellbeing. An important emphasis of this celebration will be on inclusivity. We sometimes forget the extent to which people with a disability\, physical\, mental\, spoken or hearing\, are often excluded. \nDuring the pandemic we have run some webinars encouraging members to recognise this lack of inclusivity and advise them on ways to overcome it. In the course of this\, our first new face-to-face event for some time\, you will receive guidance from specialists in Disability on how best to relate to disabled people and communicate effectively. \nBOOK NOW.\nEmail: gerry@londonscc.co.uk \nPhone: 07958 584479 \n \nTHERE IS NO CHARGE FOR THIS EVENT\, WHICH IS SPONSORED BY THE NATIONAL LOTTERY COMMUNITY FUND\, AND THERE WILL BE A COMPLIMENTARY BUFFET WITH WINE AND SOFT DRINKS

SUMMARY:OPEN SOURCE DUE DILIGENCE - BUSINESS WEBINAR
DESCRIPTION:So\, what has open source research ever done for us?\nThursday 29th April 2021\, 4.00pm to 5.00pm \nLSCC Virtual Meeting Powered by Zoom \nUsing Open Source research for Due Diligence \nIf you employ someone in a role that involves commercial confidentiality\, or there is some sensitivity around it\, or if you are looking to sign a contract with a new company\, you will know about conducting “due diligence” enquiries and\, at some stage\, you will be doing “open source research” but what exactly is that? This webinar will explore how effective it can be. \nMany people and businesses think that “open source research” involves nothing more than a Google search\, and are content to rely on that as the extent of their due diligence enquiries. If you get it wrong there is the risk of employing someone who is not who they appear to be – which can have a significant impact on your business. Furthermore\, recent legislation and court cases have due made plain that regulatory authorities are focusing much more on what steps businesses have taken to ensure that the companies and businesses they deal with are legitimate. Failure to do so can result in both financial penalties and reputational damage. \nVentham Consulting specialises in open source research\, using techniques and skills based on those learned in specialist operations of policing and intelligence\, and adapted to the wider business and civil world. We recently submitted evidence about the value of this form of investigation to the House of Commons’ Treasury Select Committee inquiry into economic crime. This webinar is designed to give a background to the sort of problems encountered\, the opportunities offered by online research\, and how it can assist your business. \nYou are invited to join the meeting via Zoom. \nWhen: 29th April at 4:00pm UK time. \nhttps://zoom.us/j/95022365708?pwd=WE9ZL04rL0laV25yU1NBQ1l5cmdtQT09 \nMeeting ID: 950 2236 5708 \nPasscode: k7N%3vxL8D \nFor further information please contact Gerry on 07958 584479 or email gerry@londonscc.co.uk

It will have a specific concern with encouraging member businesses to be fully involved with their local community and particularly with disabled members of that community. \nPrior to the launch of some new and exciting LSCC initiatives\, we intend to enter into open dialogue with all interested parties. Firstly to host an open discussion and Q&A session for your views and feedback on how best to serve our members\, and increase our reach to other local business. Through the Committee you will\, for example\, have access to some of South Bank University’s business resources. This event will act as the perfect platform for growth and business innovation with the support of LSCC and its partners and contacts. \nPlease come along to this virtual event on Thursday 25th March from 4.00 pm to 5.00 pm and let us know what you think and if you would like to be involved. SUMMARY:Webinar: The Challenges of Covid-19 - A Discussion
DESCRIPTION:The last few months were\, and continue to be difficult for businesses\, many difficulties remain in the air and subject to change with shifting regulations. As it is still impossible to run face-to-face meetings\, lunches\, and trade visits\, we have started to organize some online events\, which have so far taken the form of presentations. As a variation from this and so as to include some “networking” our next webinar will be a discussion in which you can hear and consider some of the issues and challenges members believe they may face in the months ahead – on a business and indeed on a personal level. \nThe webinar was led by Guy Bridger of Taxfile and held on the evening of the 27th August– like our normal Business Club meetings. \nRegistrations are now closed.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Getting Redundancies Right
DESCRIPTION:London Southside Chamber in association with HR Dept presents:\n“Getting Redundancies Right”\n\nThe corona-virus pandemic left business owners preparing to restructure their business \nPotentially having to make redundancies \nThe financial and reputational risks are for getting the redundancy process wrong could be dire \nWith the Corona-virus Job Retention Scheme ending in October\, many employers faced a worrying time ahead. The aftershock of the pandemic forced businesses to rethink their future. Sadly\, in many cases\, this started and continues with cutting costs just so the business can survive. \nReducing staff is usually the first cost to be cut. Yet redundancies are not the only answer; job shares\, redistributing workloads\, reducing hours\, or even unpaid leave are all options. But what if these options are not possible and the only option is a reduction in staff? Where do you start? \nWhat are your legal obligations? Redundancy can be a minefield for employers and getting the process wrong can carry a high price because of the legal\, financial\, and reputational damage a badly done redundancy dismissal creates. \nThis webinar:\n\nCovered the legal requirements for conducting an individual redundancy\nconsultation process and dismissing staff by reason of redundancy\nProvided a practical structure that business owners and managers could follow\nto commence a redundancy consultation process\nExplored the alternative options that business owners and managers must\nconsider before they make staff redundant\nConsidered how to make redundancy an experience that hopefully leaves\nstaff feeling positive and involved in the outcome\n\nOur speaker\, David Hudson is Director and Owner of The HR Dept Clapham. He has extensive experience in providing HR support across a range of sectors and in all areas of HR\, from recruiting staff to make redundancies and everything in between. In this interactive workshop\, David provided practical guidance based on his knowledge of employment law combined with his and his clients’ experiences in this area. \nRegistration is now closed.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Minimising Risk for Staff with a Disability: Catching & Spreading COVID-19
DESCRIPTION:Now that most businesses are being encouraged to open\, everyone is facing the challenge of making sure we keep the Covid-19 infection rate as low as possible. For those businesses who employ staff with a disability\, adjustments may need to be made. \nEmployers have a duty to keep all staff safe\, and as an individual or as a business owner with responsibilities in keeping employees and the public as safe as possible\, we all know the mantra: \n\nMaintain a social distance of at least 1 metre away\nWear a face covering\nWash and sanitise your hands often\n\nBut for disabled staff members this is not always practical or possible…………… \nAre you doing all these things correctly? Are you self-taught or following guidelines?  Consider the following: \n\nThe 20 second Happy Birthday method is only the start of effective hand hygiene;\n\nWearing gloves could make things worse;\n\nSome commonly used types face coverings offer no protection at all.\n\nOver doing PPE is just as bad for your business as not using the appropriate amount.\nThere is a routine that anyone who shares a workspace should adopt.\n\nAlison Mo\, a clinician who is working at the Covid-19 front line\, will be giving a virtual talk to LSCC members and colleagues about how to minimise your risk of catching and spreading Covid-19. Her talk will address the above practical issues and much more\, such as demonstrating a very effective handwashing procedure for soap and water as well as one to use for alcohol hand sanitiser. \n \nThere was no charge for these Disability related events\, which were sponsored by the National Lottery Community Fund \nRegistration has now closed.

SUMMARY:Business Club Meeting - Cyber Security Conference
DESCRIPTION:Hacking\, fraudulent transactions\, intellectual property\, and identity theft are just a few of the areas for concern for businesses small and large. Our presenters\, Samuel Hussain and Kathryn Stavropoulos explained how the cyber threat is evolving and emanating from nation-states\, organised crime and international terrorists and\, most importantly\, they explained how the attendees could take proactive measures to protect both themselves and their business from such attacks. \nSamuel works for Barclays Bank\, who are members of LSCC\, and hosted the evening’s presentation. As the bank’s Business Banking Digital Engagement Manager he was able to share insights and tips as well as helping members to understand what threats exist and steps they could take to improve their resilience to a cyber-attack. With his years of experience\, we were sure of receiving expert knowledge to help us understand why we should bring cybersecurity up in our priority list. Kathryn is from Reload Digital and is a digital marketing strategist and trainer\, with interests in connecting the latest social media and advertising trends with wider business and marketing objectives. \nThere was no charge for this event and there was a complimentary buffet with wine and soft drinks.

SUMMARY:Trade Mission South America
DESCRIPTION:Colombia has shed its reputation as a dangerous country. After years of conflict\, the country now enjoys political stability and economic regeneration\, the drug cartels have been eradicated and tourism is rapidly expanding. However\, it remains one of the most unspoilt Latin American countries and is rather like South America in miniature with a fascinating mix of Andean cities\, the Amazon basin\, rain forests\, colonial towns\, stately haciendas\, and beautiful beaches. In addition to its dramatic scenery\, Colombia enjoys the greatest variety of flora and fauna\, some of the most atmospheric towns in the world\, and the happiest and friendliest people in Latin America. \nTwenty LSCC members came on this Trade Visit. English speaking guides from Aviatur\, one of Colombia’s pre-eminent travel and tour companies accompanied us throughout. The accommodation was in centrally located 4-star hotels highly recommended by native Colombians\, and all travel\, together with two internal flights\, was included. We started our tour in Bogota\, which is Colombia’s high-altitude capital and where we spent 3 nights. We then flew to Medellin\, nicknamed “the city of eternal spring” for its temperate climate\, for 2/3 days. From there we flew to Cartagena\, where our 4-star hotel was beside the beach. \nWe returned from Cartagena to London after 5 days there. Although most members of the group flew to Colombia from London\, in keeping with our international membership\, we were also joined by members flying from Jamaica\, Spain\, and the USA. Our visit enabled everyone to learn more about the country and region\, enjoy its culture and explore potential business opportunities. It enabled them also to escape the English winter for a couple of weeks in the sun. \nThis trip cost £1790 per person in double or twin room\, supplement an additional £440 for a single room. \nPrices included: \n\nInternational flights from London to Bogota and from Cartagena to London\nOne-way internal flight from Bogota to Medellin\nOne way internal flight from Medellin to Cartagena\nTravel by private coach while in Colombia\, including airport transfers\nServices of English speaking guides throughout\n11 nights stay with breakfast in 4-star city centre hotels in Bogota & Medellin and by the beach in Cartagena \nFive lunches in high-quality restaurants\nAll entrance fees throughout the visit and all local taxes\nAll business briefings\, business to business meetings & business appointment\n\nTo see our itinerary\, click here.
