SUMMARY:OPEN SOURCE DUE DILIGENCE - BUSINESS WEBINAR
DESCRIPTION:So\, what has open source research ever done for us?\nThursday 29th April 2021\, 4.00pm to 5.00pm \nLSCC Virtual Meeting Powered by Zoom \nUsing Open Source research for Due Diligence \nIf you employ someone in a role that involves commercial confidentiality\, or there is some sensitivity around it\, or if you are looking to sign a contract with a new company\, you will know about conducting “due diligence” enquiries and\, at some stage\, you will be doing “open source research” but what exactly is that? This webinar will explore how effective it can be. \nMany people and businesses think that “open source research” involves nothing more than a Google search\, and are content to rely on that as the extent of their due diligence enquiries. If you get it wrong there is the risk of employing someone who is not who they appear to be – which can have a significant impact on your business. Furthermore\, recent legislation and court cases have due made plain that regulatory authorities are focusing much more on what steps businesses have taken to ensure that the companies and businesses they deal with are legitimate. Failure to do so can result in both financial penalties and reputational damage. \nVentham Consulting specialises in open source research\, using techniques and skills based on those learned in specialist operations of policing and intelligence\, and adapted to the wider business and civil world. We recently submitted evidence about the value of this form of investigation to the House of Commons’ Treasury Select Committee inquiry into economic crime. This webinar is designed to give a background to the sort of problems encountered\, the opportunities offered by online research\, and how it can assist your business. \nYou are invited to join the meeting via Zoom. \nWhen: 29th April at 4:00pm UK time. \nhttps://zoom.us/j/95022365708?pwd=WE9ZL04rL0laV25yU1NBQ1l5cmdtQT09 \nMeeting ID: 950 2236 5708 \nPasscode: k7N%3vxL8D \nFor further information please contact Gerry on 07958 584479 or email gerry@londonscc.co.uk

SUMMARY:Webinar: The Challenges of Covid-19 - A Discussion
DESCRIPTION:The last few months were\, and continue to be difficult for businesses\, many difficulties remain in the air and subject to change with shifting regulations. As it is still impossible to run face-to-face meetings\, lunches\, and trade visits\, we have started to organize some online events\, which have so far taken the form of presentations. As a variation from this and so as to include some “networking” our next webinar will be a discussion in which you can hear and consider some of the issues and challenges members believe they may face in the months ahead – on a business and indeed on a personal level. \nThe webinar was led by Guy Bridger of Taxfile and held on the evening of the 27th August– like our normal Business Club meetings. \nRegistrations are now closed.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Getting Redundancies Right
DESCRIPTION:London Southside Chamber in association with HR Dept presents:\n“Getting Redundancies Right”\n\nThe corona-virus pandemic left business owners preparing to restructure their business \nPotentially having to make redundancies \nThe financial and reputational risks are for getting the redundancy process wrong could be dire \nWith the Corona-virus Job Retention Scheme ending in October\, many employers faced a worrying time ahead. The aftershock of the pandemic forced businesses to rethink their future. Sadly\, in many cases\, this started and continues with cutting costs just so the business can survive. \nReducing staff is usually the first cost to be cut. Yet redundancies are not the only answer; job shares\, redistributing workloads\, reducing hours\, or even unpaid leave are all options. But what if these options are not possible and the only option is a reduction in staff? Where do you start? \nWhat are your legal obligations? Redundancy can be a minefield for employers and getting the process wrong can carry a high price because of the legal\, financial\, and reputational damage a badly done redundancy dismissal creates. \nThis webinar:\n\nCovered the legal requirements for conducting an individual redundancy\nconsultation process and dismissing staff by reason of redundancy\nProvided a practical structure that business owners and managers could follow\nto commence a redundancy consultation process\nExplored the alternative options that business owners and managers must\nconsider before they make staff redundant\nConsidered how to make redundancy an experience that hopefully leaves\nstaff feeling positive and involved in the outcome\n\nOur speaker\, David Hudson is Director and Owner of The HR Dept Clapham. He has extensive experience in providing HR support across a range of sectors and in all areas of HR\, from recruiting staff to make redundancies and everything in between. In this interactive workshop\, David provided practical guidance based on his knowledge of employment law combined with his and his clients’ experiences in this area. \nRegistration is now closed.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Minimising Risk for Staff with a Disability: Catching & Spreading COVID-19
DESCRIPTION:Now that most businesses are being encouraged to open\, everyone is facing the challenge of making sure we keep the Covid-19 infection rate as low as possible. For those businesses who employ staff with a disability\, adjustments may need to be made. \nEmployers have a duty to keep all staff safe\, and as an individual or as a business owner with responsibilities in keeping employees and the public as safe as possible\, we all know the mantra: \n\nMaintain a social distance of at least 1 metre away\nWear a face covering\nWash and sanitise your hands often\n\nBut for disabled staff members this is not always practical or possible…………… \nAre you doing all these things correctly? Are you self-taught or following guidelines?  Consider the following: \n\nThe 20 second Happy Birthday method is only the start of effective hand hygiene;\n\nWearing gloves could make things worse;\n\nSome commonly used types face coverings offer no protection at all.\n\nOver doing PPE is just as bad for your business as not using the appropriate amount.\nThere is a routine that anyone who shares a workspace should adopt.\n\nAlison Mo\, a clinician who is working at the Covid-19 front line\, will be giving a virtual talk to LSCC members and colleagues about how to minimise your risk of catching and spreading Covid-19. Her talk will address the above practical issues and much more\, such as demonstrating a very effective handwashing procedure for soap and water as well as one to use for alcohol hand sanitiser. \n \nThere was no charge for these Disability related events\, which were sponsored by the National Lottery Community Fund \nRegistration has now closed.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Lockdown - The Legal Implications for your Business
DESCRIPTION:Hi all\, \nI hope all managed as well as they could during this strenuous time\, for the foreseeable future it was clear that the chamber would not be able to host our business lunches as usual. However\, we believed it was the most important time to come together and therefore we have been hosting online webinars as a temporary replacement. The first of these were hosted on June 3rd at 1 PM\, by our colleagues at Anthony Gold.
